The Tax Tithe

One of the things I like to do in my off time is try to get out of the box, the box of my mind, the boxes society throws at us.  The world is a much bigger place than most of us can imagine and we’re perpetually stuck.  I like getting unstuck.

So I was thinking, as I often do, about government and in particular democracy and taxes.  Bothers me, as it does many of us, that we have little to no say about how our tax dollars are used besides voting for other people who may or may not listen to our thoughts or concerns regarding how our tax dollars are spent.  So I thought, why not consider 10% of our tax dollars a “tithe” to the government that we, as individuals get to choose how we want used.  For example, say I’m paying $10k a year into the state budget and I’m a strong proponent of ensuring the homeless are, well, homed.  Then when tax time comes around, I check a box that says hey, put all my tithe towards the homeless.

Now this may seem overly complicated, I mean, there are tons of things to choose from, but lets be real, we’re in the modern computer era.  If I can choose between 8 trillion products on amazon, I should be able to choose between a couple hundred thousand things I want my tax dollars spent on in the yearly budget.

Great way to bring more democracy into our taxation system IMHO.

Cheers.
