Once Santa, AKA my dad, saw how much I loved using it he started allowing me to use his 35mm Canon TLb and it wasn’t too long afterward that I won my first photography contest. In the early 90’s I took my first photography course at Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon using my fiance’s Pentax K1000, but I didn’t own my own 35mm until 2000 when I moved to Portland, Oregon and purchased a Nikon N80. Since then I’ve frequently had a camera in my hands capturing day to day life, shooting portraits, weddings, and events such as Relay for Life, but until 2024 it was just one of a number of hobbies that finally turned into an obsession.

This web site is an expression of that life long love–and now addiction–of photography.

So if you’ve stumbled upon this site there’s a good chance I’ve asked for a picture and handed you a business card. I can’t tell you how big a deal that is to me, not just you allowing a total stranger to snap a shot or two (thank you!), but also because I’m what some might call shy (psychologically speaking I’m on the spectrum or, as some might say, “high functioning”). Photography is helping me transform myself from someone who has always hidden behind the safety of a camera to someone ready to interact with the world as he attempts to immortalize it in two dimensions.

Where do I hope this will lead?

More interactions with a wider variety of people. Meaningful connections with other photography enthusiasts. A successful part time photography business. And oh yeah, some amazing photos! Pygmie Studios is just in it’s first iteration and there’s a lot of work to be done so be patient and stay tuned.

Cordially,

Aslynn S.
