Off To Texas, Wahoo!

Tomorrow I get up at the butt crack of dawn to head to the PDX International Airport where I will abscond to Austin, Texas for a five day work event. This will be my first out of state work event in my thirty year career and my first time in American South. Granted, I grew up in a small cowboy town here in Oregon, but I expect Texas is a different beast–though I hear Portland and Austin have a lot in common, at least in terms of being more liberal, music, and food minded.

After days of preparation I’m finally packed. Going on the trip:

  • Nikon Z6ii w/ the new CF Express 1TB card for storing RAW files, four Z lenses including but not limited to a 50mm and 105mm macro.
  • An original Polaroid SX-70.
  • A Pentax K1000 SE with a 50mm prime and a 35 – 70mm zoom lenses.
  • An 80’s Kodak 110 pocket camera.
  • 2 rolls of Kodak TMax 400.
  • 2 rolls of Cinestill Color 800.
  • 1 roll of Cinestill B/W 400.
  • 1 canister of Lomography Tiger 100.
  • A flash bulb set for the 110 film camera.
  • A Nikon SB400 flash.
  • An extra USB power pack.

I’m not exactly sure how I was able to stuff this all in one backpack, but the lessons my dad taught me when he used to pack an old 70’s Datsun hatchback to the brim on family trips taught me how to use every millimeter of available space. I’m also glad the temperature in Austin will be sticking to the mid to lower 80’s given that a) I don’t do well in heat and b) I know all too well how hot it gets carrying around 20+ pounds of camera gear while doing street photography.

Friendly reminder to self: Don’t forget your water bottle!!!

I may not be able to share pictures until I return (haven’t tested the ability to upload albums to my blog from outside my own home network) but late next week I hope to have a plethora of digital photography shared here and a week or two later I should have the film scanned and uploaded.

Here’s to street photography!

Cheers,

Aslynn
